What is a cleft lip?

Baby is born with tissues that did not form together creating a ‘split’ in the upper lip and to the nostril; can be one sided or on both sides.

What causes a cleft lip?

Unknown; some possible risk factors could be genetics, how the mother interacts with the environment during pregnancy, mother’s diet, diabetes, smoking, and certain medications.

What are symptoms of a cleft lip?

Difficulty speaking, eating, swallowing.

What is treatment for a cleft lip?

Surgery that may involve many different doctors and specialists.
