Dehiscence

What is dehiscence?

Dehiscence is when a wound reopens.

What causes dehiscence?

Dehiscence can be caused by infection, pressure on sutures or a healing wound, poor suturing techniques, or increased blood flow to the area.

What are its symptoms?

There may be increased pain, redness, swelling, bleeding, and draining fluid in the area.

Treatment for dehiscence

Treatment for dehiscence depends on the size of the wound. This may include routine pain management (over-the-counter pain medications), antibiotics, removal of dead tissue, negative pressure therapy and closure.
