What is gemination?

Gemination is when a tooth that is forming splits into two.

What causes gemination?

The cause for gemination is not known. Gemination is possibly due to trauma to teeth, diseases, diet, or genetics.

What are its symptoms?

You may notice an oversized tooth in your mouth. Such a large tooth may cause crowding in your mouth and make other teeth look crooked. Geminated teeth are also more likely to have cavities.

Treatment options for gemination?

Treatment will be different for everyone since gemination appears differently in everyone; dentist may choose to leave the tooth in your mouth if it doesn’t cause any problems; larger teeth may be removed from the mouth.
