What is a lesion?

A lesion is an abnormal and/or damaged bodily tissue. A lesion can be found inside or on the outside of the body.

What causes a lesion?

A lesion can be caused by diseases, injury or trauma to the body, bacteria, tumors, and more.

What are symptoms of a lesion?

Symptoms of a lesion includes areas of skin or gums that can look broken, inflamed and/or swollen, or just overall different. There may be pain where the lesion is. A lesion can sometimes get bigger over time if not treated.

Treatment for a lesion

It is important to see your doctor to determine the cause of the lesion and the right treatment. Some treatment options will include medications and/or surgical removal.
