Prophylaxis

What is a Dental Prophylaxis?

A prophylaxis is a professional teeth cleaning at a dentist office to remove bacteria and plaque on teeth.

Why is a Prophylaxis needed?

Harmful bacteria settle on the gum line over time. Even with great brushing, you cannot access every area of the mouth without special tools.

Is a Prophylaxis painful?

You may experience some slight bleeding of your gums when you get a cleaning. This means that there is bacteria causing inflammation there.

Treatment

It is important to get your teeth cleaned at the dentist office at least every 6 months. The dentist will also check your teeth to see if there are any new cavities.
