What is Pulpitis?
Pulpitis is inflammation of the tooth’s pulp (innermost part of the tooth that has blood and nerves).
What causes Pulpitis?
Pulpitis can be caused by cavities that are close to or reaching the pulp. Pulpitis can also be caused by injury/trauma, grinding or clenching, or dental work that is nearing the pulp.
Symptoms of Pulpitis
Symptoms of pulpits include tooth pain, especially pain to heat, cold, and/or pressure.
Treatment for Pulpitits
There are many treatments of pulpitis depending on the cause. It is important to see your dentist to determine the treatment needed. If the dentist thinks the pulpitis is reversible, treatment can be to do a filling, re-do the existing work, as well as other options. If the pulpitis is not reversible, treatments include root canal therapy, and/or tooth removal. Treatment options for pulpitis become more severe the longer you wait to see your dentist.
