Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD)


What is TMD?

Pain in the jaw and muscles in the face (also called TMJ disorder)

What causes TMD?

Genetics, arthritis, jaw injury or teeth grinding.

Symptoms of TMD

Jaw soreness, limited mouth movements, clicking/popping of the jaw, headaches, clenching or grinding of teeth.

Treatment of TMD

Pain relievers and anti-inflammatories, tricyclic antidepressants, muscle relaxants, occlusal guards, and physical therapy. In rare/extreme cases surgery may help.
