What is a white spot lesion?

A white spot lesion is a small very white area on the tooth indicating that there is a cavity there.

What causes a white spot lesion?

White spot lesions are caused by poor oral hygiene and a diet high in sugary foods.

Symptoms of white spot lesion

A white discoloration on the tooth. The tooth may not hurt or have any other symptoms.

Treatment options for a white spot lesion

Sometimes a small white spot lesion, or a small cavity, can be stopped with good oral hygiene habits. It is important to see your dentist to determine whether you need a filling.

For microcavitation, baby bottle caries and white spot lesion, should an additional treatment be added–topical fluoride application, either through fluoride varnish or use of fluoridated tooth paste &/ or mothwash?
