Evaluation Through Dissemination of The Sunfish Method©: An Adaptive Swimming Online Training Course

Abstract:
Adaptive swimming lessons increase the accessibility of this sport and life-saving leisure activity for children of all abilities while improving swimming and safety skills (Munn et al., 2021). Project aimed to enhance The Sunfish MethodⒸ adaptive swimming online training course in building instructor knowledge and confidence in teaching adaptive swimming lessons. Over 1400 community-based aquatic organizations and parent/caregiver support groups for children with disabilities were invited to complete the course and feedback survey. 21 instructors completed The Sunfish MethodⒸ and provided feedback. Survey data was evaluated for course improvement. 95% of participants felt more confident teaching adaptive swimming lessons after completing The Sunfish MethodⒸ. Results highlight The Sunfish Method’sⒸ potential to train instructors with opportunities to enhance its impact by incorporating additional adaptive techniques.
