B.S. Chemical Engineering, University of Massachusetts—Amherst, 2014
Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, University of Wisconsin—Madison, 2019
Postdoctoral Associate, Tufts University, 2019-2020
Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University, 2020-2021

Nathaniel (Nat) began his scientific career as an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts—Amherst investigating the use of biopolymers and naturally-derived molecules for antimicrobial applications under the guidance of Prof. Jessica Schiffman. He then shifted his focus toward catalysis in his doctoral research at the University of Wisconsin—Madison under the supervision of Prof. George Huber. During his studies he developed technologies to catalytically convert biomass-derived platform molecules to distillate-range diesel and jet fuels. Nat then pursued postdoctoral research in the DOE-sponsored IMASC EFRC focused on understanding the catalytic applications of dilute alloy nanomaterials at Tufts University under the supervision of Prof. Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos and Prof. E. Charles H. Sykes. He then continued his work in this center at Harvard University under the supervision of Prof. Cynthia Friend and Prof. Robert Madix until coming back to Tufts as an Assistant Professor in September 2021.
