Door Bot
Door Bot
A robot to help close your doors.
Cameron
This robot was designed to check if a door is open and if it is go and close this door. I attached a small piece of a Vitamin Water bottle to my GoPiGo using tape and cardboard, this is used as a ram so the GoPiGo is able to move into the door. I used the distance sensor to detect if the door was open or closed. If the door was open then the GoPiGo moves forward and closes the door.
Hi Cameron! What a neat robot, I’m really impressed with the arc the bot follows as it pushes the door closed. Did you get a chance to test this on different sized doors or different floor surfaces? Well done!
Thank you! I have not been able to try it on a different door or floor surface but will be trying both of those soon.
Very neat! I really liked the mechanical design of adding that big bumper on the front of the robot. I’m curious – how did the robot know when the door was done being closed?
The robot did not know if the door was closed because I coded the robot to move a certain distance. My next step is to have the robot close any door.
So many door, so little time! My children are constantly leaving cabinet doors and furniture doors open. This would be really useful for safety as well as sanity.
I like how it turns doors from open to closed.
That’s a really creative ram. I would’ve never thought about using a bottle.
I wouldn’t have even thought of using a water bottle as a battering ram. I was surprised that it didn’t get crushed between the robot and the door.
I like how you used your resources to provide protection to your robot.
I like the use of the water bottle, and it effectively performs the task it’s given

Great use of the water bottle as a ramming device. I think it is really efficient and I’d love to see how this project evolves with time.
I like the use of the bumper instead of possibly hurting the robot. I feel like I need one of these for myself now.
This is a useful idea for the home! I like the use of the distance sensor for increased functionality in different environments. In the future, would it be possible to return to the origin after it shuts the door?
I liked this project. It was cool how you used the distance sensor in order to detect whether or not the door is open.
I love the use of the water bottle to act as a sort of spring! Nice job
