Helping Recovering Patients Stay Safe

Helping Recovering Patients Stay Safe

This robot will reduce risk for patients on the journey of physical recovery.

Francesca

My GoPiGo to assist patients who either have trouble walking or are in the process of learning to walk again. This robot will follow patients around and be used as a means of getting help quickly. The GoPiGo will follow a patient around using the distance sensor for a desired amount of time. If the patient requires assistance, they can just press the button. Someone will be notified through Airtable and be able to help. With this, I hope to reduce risks for patients who are recovering alone.

  • Hi Francesca, what a helpful little robot! I love how it just follows the person around. I really appreciate the feature to call for help as well 🙂

  • That’s really cool! Really cool to use airtable to alert people remotely and allows a lot of possibilities on how to further expand the idea.

  • Awesome! Robotics has a lot of really interesting applications to patient recovery and physical therapy. Have you thought of any other ways that robotics can help with physical therapy? Besides falls, what are other problems that recovering patients may encounter?

    • Thank you for your feedback! Another application of physical therapy I was thinking about was creating a robot that keeps track of exercise routines in order to increase mobility.

  • I like this as a scale model of this type of support. It’s definitely needed in the assistance space as individuals want to maintain their independence and families want to make sure they are safe. It would be awesome if future models could include interfaces with other sensors (heart rate, SP02), Nice Work!

  • stay safe, stay 6 feet away, wear a mask.

this is really cool. I like how it follows people but doesn’t interfere. It also gives help to nurses which is great.

  • The button that calls for help can be very useful to a person that needs that help. I also think it could be helpful to take a photo when they call for help, so that it can take a photo and show what situation the person is in, in case they’re in some kind of danger.

  • This is such a good project idea! Having mobility added to the robot can be super helpful for a patient. I really like the integration that you added with the API to get assistance if needed.

  • Love the idea. I think this is an extremely important field and it needs a reliable solution. I think you did a great job and hope you continue on iterating and working with this idea in the future!

  • I think this is very useful and could be used in many different situations. I think this will definitely work well in a rehab or hospital setting.

  • I thought this was a great project. It was really neat how the user is able to input health information that can be accessed and contacted when the patient is in distress.

  • Francesca this is such a smart idea and I hope you decide to run with it and try the camera vision modification you mentioned!
