Zamboni Robot
Zamboni Robot
I built a zamboni robot to assist in cleaning my kitchen.
Spencer
My zamboni uses an ultrasonic distance sensor to measure the distance to obstructions/walls. Once it gets within 30cm of a wall, it turns around and drives in the other direction. It has a wet rag attached to the back to clean the floors as it drives.
Really cool! Did you consider adding any extra controls for stopping the robot or guiding it?
not really at this point. so far I am trying to get it to drive straight and turn exactly 90 degrees but def gonna look into that in the future
Great! Making cleaning easier is always a big plus. Have you thought about ways that you can expand on this idea to accommodate different types of mess, different flooring, etc?
um currently my goal if to have the robot master cleaning my kitchen currently before I try to expand it to accommodate other surfaces
this is really useful, i need one for my kitchen.
thank you!
I like how you attached the rag to the robot, with it trailing behind and can avoid it getting caught under the wheels of the robot.
I really enjoyed the design of the robot. I think the metal wire used to hold the rag was really smart as it was able to hold the rag tight while still allowing sufficient motion.
thank you!
I really like the idea. I think this would be really good to help clean floors as that is a very tedious task to do.
I really liked this project. It seems very useful and I liked how you attached the rag onto the robot.
thank you!
Rag is creative and the project is interesting and different from any other project I’ve seen so far

thank you!
It’s working very well and seems very useful for cleaning up a room. I think the best way to improve it is to find some way to avoid areas it’s already mopped, as it seemed to go over some of the same areas, which could be inefficient in the long run.
yes that is def a valid consideration and I’m gonna try to figure out how to get it to go in straight rows in order to prevent this.
Definitely a really useful robot to have in a kitchen, maybe try to have a drying rag behind the wet rag?
yeah that’s a really good idea ill look into that in the future!
This looks like a very useful robot and your collision detection looks very good. Is there currently any method in place to prevent it from driving over carpet?
um currently in my house there isn’t really that much carpet on my first floor but maybe in the future ill try to use a color sensor to detect carpet
very creative, but you know you may have to put a disclaimer because if someone slips and falls because of the wet floors they will sue you lmao, good job tho
thanks for the legal advice lmao
As a former skate, I love the Zamboni bot. I am surprised that we have seen more made. i appreciate your work on obstacle avoidance.
thank you!
