A robot that can scan and plot surfaces

With trigonometry, one can calculate both the x and y coordinate of a point on a surface at an angle theta. Therefore, with the readings of the distance sensor, we can plot said surface. That is the premise of my project; using the distance sensor plus the servo motor’s mobility to plot the cross section of surfaces.
