Dehydration savior

Dehydration savior

It’s a bot that tells me to drink water every once in a while to keep me hydrated.

By Sami.

I am a person who doesn’t drink water at all during the day and especially while I am working. So I decided to design a bot to help surpass this bad habit!!!
When I sit at my desk, I press the “GO” button for the bot to start working. It will start a timer that will count how much time the bottle hasn’t moved from its place. Therefore, I decided to use the distance sensor that will calculate the distance between the bot and the bottle. If the distance stays the same, we presume that the bottle hasn’t moved and if it increased, it means that I picked it up and I am now drinking. Moreover, I decided to light the eyes for them to guide me through the process. When the timer starts, the eyes of the bot light up in green. When the timer exceeds 30 minutes, the eyes go orange (for a warning), and when it exceeds an hour, they go red, and the robot starts yelling at me, asking me to drink. When I pick up the bottle, the eyes turn blue and the robot congratulates me with a “well done”.
After that, the bottle is placed back at its initial place and the process starts again.

  • This is great. My coworker has a bottle that lights up to remind her but that’s too easy to ignore! This robot would do the trick.

  • This is such a creative project! I would use this daily. Are you able to adjust the frequency of reminders to half an hour instead of an hour?

  • I love the idea! Very creative. You could also keep track of how many “sips” the user takes in a graph, so you have an idea of your progress so far!

  • Hi Sami! I’m happy to see you implement a solution for a common problem. I honestly want to use this myself because we’ve talked about my lack of water intake. I think this program is versatile too depending on the settings of the user and could benefit from an input request so that it changes how often the user is asked to drink water. I loved the addition of the speaker too so that it would communicate via light and verbally to the user! Hopefully it comes in use this summer! – Phoebe
