Re-imagining Music for an Immersive, Interactive Listening Experience
Over the past few years the main focus of virtual reality has been visual component, however, the audio component has not been investigated with the same level of rigor. Our group set out to address this disparity, concentrating on creating a 3-D spatially accurate listening experience. There are many techniques, coupled with head tracking, to modify an audio source to make it appear to have a specific location in space using head related transfer functions and modifying the phase and magnitude of the audio source. Our solution creates a new listening experience to improve how people perceive and enjoy music and other experiences that otherwise exist as non-interactive media.
