GIS, Data Analysis & Statistics Expertise

Tufts Technology Services (TTS) is seeking responsible students who would like to help support the Data Lab in Tisch Library or on the Downtown Boston Campus.  The Data Lab is a teaching and research-computing lab designed to foster collaboration and innovation around data analysis, visualization, & design across all campuses and departments. Responsibilities:

The position will entail keeping the Data Lab organized & operational; assisting students with GIS, data analysis, and/or statistical projects and assignments; developing instructional resources; and providing support for on-going Data Lab projects.

Desired Qualifications:

Preference will be given to students with the following skills/credentials:

  • Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS software (primarily ArcMap & ArcCatalog) – At least the equivalent skill level of completing an Intro to GIS Course.
  • Strong working knowledge or willingness to learn more about statistical softwares such as STATA, SPSS, SAS, or R
  • Working knowledge or willingness to learn more about of ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth, GeoDa, Adobe products and other mapping and desktop publishing software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Interest and willingness to learn about data visualization techniques and software
  • Enjoy customer service roles, working with others and helping students learn

 

Note: We do not expect candidates to have all listed skills and knowledge of softwares! We have positions available that are geared towards GIS and others that are geared towards statistics & data analysis.

Hours:

Hours range between 8-15 hours per week from 9am and 9pm on weekdays and select hours on weekends.

 

Pay rate:

Starting at $15 per hour based on experience and expertise.

 

Start Date:

Several positions are available for the Spring 2018 semester at both the Medford and Boston Campuses.

We would like to hire some students that can continue working through the 2018 – 2019 academic year.

  • Send a copy of your final GIS Poster or examples of GIS work to Carolyn Talmadge. If you are currently in a GIS course and have not finished your final poster yet, that is OK – please apply anyways.

 

Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 22nd. We would like to conduct short interviews throughout the next few weeks on campus if possible. If you are unable to interview in person due to leaving for holiday break, we can set up skype meetings.
