Research Assistant Position Opening

Description of Research:  Comparative study of policies towards cross-border health threats perceived to be carried by people or products; focus on how governments respond to risk; and how scientific information is generated, and is incorporated (or not) into political decision-making. 

Cases include: history of blood-borne viruses; HIV, TB and emergent diseases; Covid19 

Tasks: review of press response and government policy documents; construction of chronologies of events; bibliographic searches; literature reviews; tape transcription (possibly); data analysis and qualitative coding (willingness to learn qualitative software programs eg. Nvivo); Zoom interviewing (possibly). 

Job Requirements: Background in social science helpful (sociology, political science, economics, anthropology), as is familiarity with databases.

Terms:  Hours negotiable: minimum ~8 per week. Eligibility for work-study preferred.  Can start immediately.
 

Compensation:  $12.75/hour to $15.00/hour, depending on background and experience; raises each semester; undergraduate and graduate students
