Welcome to Global One Health in Action: The Gass Lab

The Gass Lab is a joint research collaboration between Tufts University’s School of Medicine and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, dedicated to understanding biological, socio-behavioral, and environmental pressures shape the emergence, evolution, and spread of infectious diseases. Our work focuses on the critical intersections of human, animal, and environmental health, where shifting ecological conditions and anthropogenic activities create new pathways for microbial transmission.

We combine field-based surveillance, advanced bioinformatics, and species-centered intervention design to investigate pathogen ecology across diverse landscapes and host communities. By integrating population-level epidemiology with ecological and molecular analyses, we study microbial transmission dynamics across multiple scales and One Health systems—from individual hosts and communities to ecosystems undergoing rapid change.

The Gass Lab aims to generate actionable insights that strengthen disease prevention, improve cross-species health outcomes, and enhance global resilience to emerging infectious disease threats.
