nshah posted on the forum topic In order to fill both bio requirements for early assurance, is it acceptable to use an AP Bio credit in the group
Premed: 14 years ago
Yes that is perfectly fine. They really just want to see that you took two bio classes that are at least at the level of 13 & 14 or higher. When I applied, I had 13 & 41(genetics).

In order to fill both bio requirements for early assurance, is it acceptable to use an AP Bio credit for 14 (after having taken 13) to place into Bio 46 (Cell biology)? Bio 46 doesn’t have a lab. The early assurance website doesn’t specify any 2 bio courses student are required to take.

Premed: 14 years ago
Many prehealth students take two lab sciences at the same time. It is important to make an objective decision on whether or not you are capable of doing well in two lab sciences simultaneously. What others do, or tell you to do is irrelevant. What is important is your background and history. If you have […]

Stephanie Ripley started the forum topic Will a “W” keep me out of medical school? in the group
Premed: 14 years ago
A “W” will not keep you out of medical school – it is not factored in as a failure, nor automatically assumed to be such. Certainly you do not want to have multiple “W”’s on your transcript, but one is not a problem. It is important to make your decision with a full understanding of […]

Stephanie Ripley started the forum topic What math do I need for med school? in the group
Premed: 14 years ago
A full year of calculus is no longer a requirement for health professions schools as it was many years ago. Since some still do require a semester of calculus, students should plan on taking Math 5 or Math 11 if they do not already have a prematriculation credit for calculus. Students who are seriously contemplating […]

nshah started the forum topic Can/Should I take two lab sciences at once?! in the group
Premed: 14 years ago
This question comes up a lot among underclassmen. There is no definitive general answer, as it all depends on your unique situation. Things to consider include whether you have AP experience in either of these sciences (but elected not to place out), whether one of these sciences is a pre-req for the other, the number […]

Sonya Bakshi started the forum topic Do I have to take 2 semesters of Calc for Med School? in the group
Premed: 14 years ago
NO! Most med schools do not require a full year of calculus, but most require one semester. This can be either Math 11 or Math 5 (Intro to Calculus). Other math courses to look at are any statistics course , which are looked favorably upon by Med Schools.
