Improving Global Health Through Digital Technologies: A Conversation with JSI’s Steve Ollis and Netsanet Animut

From mobile data collection and medical apps to delivering health supplies by drones, digital technologies are revolutionizing health care. Digital health tools have the potential to improve the way we diagnose and treat diseases while enhancing the delivery of quality health care around the world. During this discussion, we will learn what encompasses digital health, the state of the field, and take a look at current digital health work in Ethiopia. Steve Ollis serves as Project Director for the USAID-funded Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) project at John Snow, Inc. Prior to CHISU Steve was the JSI team lead for the PMI Measure Malaria and MEASURE Evaluation project and Senior Digital Health Advisor for USAID’s Maternal and Child Survival Program.  Before joining JSI, Steve served as COO of D-tree International, developing digital health solutions aimed at improving the quality of care provided by frontline health workers. 

Netsanet Animut is an experienced Digital Health professional with 18 years of experience in health information system design, development, deployment, and management in the health and education sector.  He is currently working as Senior Director at USAID’s Digital Health Activity at John Snow, Inc in Ethiopia. Netsanet areas of expertise include information systems analysis and design, information system project management, mHealth, health management information system design and development, Data Analytics, and Monitoring & Evaluation of Development Projects.
