The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a 43,000 square foot facility in the heart of downtown Atlanta located at Pemberton Place, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park, The World of Coca-Cola, and the Georgia Aquarium. The Center is an engaging cultural attraction that connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s global human rights movements. ROLE

The Manager Interpretation and School Programs reports directly to the Director of Educational Strategies and is responsible for addressing all educational needs for the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Serve as the primary liaison to the Director of Educational Strategies on matters related to interpretation and education
•Create and integrate a full range of education material in support of the Center’s mission
•Update content of education related materials and presentations on a regular basis
•Ensure staff and volunteers, as appropriate, are trained in interpretive techniques and exhibition content
•Establish and stay in regular contact with educators and educator forums
•Ensure understanding of educator curriculum needs and develop materials to meet requirements
•Validate educational material against multi-state core curriculum standards
•Write materials and collateral to support educational programming and exhibitions
•Work closely with Visitor Services on delivery of educational goals for school groups
•Make presentations to schools and other groups as requested
•Assist with the organization and implementation of temporary exhibitions
•Assist team in interfacing with artists, collectors, and other stakeholders on curatorial projects
•Assist in conceptualization, development, and maintenance of the interpretation for permanent and temporary exhibitions
•Stay abreast of new materials that can be presented in the Center
•Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS
•Minimum of 5+ years of experience as an educator and/or curator
•Bachelor’s degree in education, history, museum studies or related field
•Certification in interpretive techniques or relevant experience
•Previous experience training staff and volunteers
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Exceptional attention to detail
•Ability to engage diverse audiences of all ages through personal and facilitated interactions
•Excellent planning and project management skills
•Capable of managing multiple priorities
•Ability to work a variable schedule based upon the needs of the organization
•Previous curriculum development experience preferred
•Previous experience with exhibition development preferred
•Grant-writing experience preferred
