Assistant Director for Education and Public Programs
The Getty Museum seeks applications for the position of Assistant Director for Education and Public Programs. Reporting to the Museum Director, the Assistant Director will serve as an integral member of the leadership team. S/he will be a strategic and collaborative leader who will serve as a confident and passionate advocate for the value of educational programming at the Museum. In addition, the Assistant Director will act as a creative thinker who can engage with advances in the digital world to extend the content and geographical reach of the Museum’s education program and enhance its reputation as a leader in the field.
S/he will articulate and work to implement a coherent vision unifying the goals and objectives of the Education Department across the two campuses: The Getty Center and The Getty Villa. The Assistant Director will frame discussions around the development of the Museum’s educational priorities and agenda, emphasizing online and other digital programming innovations. The Assistant Director will implement her/his program(s) to maximize the competencies and experience of the department, a talented team of over thirty between both locations.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for developing/enhancing, coordinating and aligning the broad range of public programming, which services diverse local, national, and international audiences that includes children, families and adult visitors, as well as teachers and students working with classroom curriculum, particularly California.
The Assistant Director for Education and Public Programs will have 5+ years of progressive organizational and administrative experience for a museum, art institution, academic institution or in a corporate setting with deep knowledge of and passion for art. S/he will be a leader with demonstrated experience in articulating a distinctive organizational, cultural, or educational vision and effectively managing its implementation and growth. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, with an awareness and experience of current digital initiatives in the arts arena who can effectively guide the department in its ambition to be a leader in this field. S/he will have prior experience working with a board and/or multiple stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, public school officials, community leaders, and prospective donors.
