Description
Exhibition Manager
MASS MoCA seeks an Exhibition Manager to join our small and ambitious Visual Arts team. The Exhibition Manager reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for planning, budgeting, drafting, and execution of MASS MoCA exhibitions in some 200,000 sq/ft of galleries.
The Exhibition Manager is lead coordinator and hands-on designer of exhibitions and special projects, managing and meeting deadlines to ensure exhibitions open on time, on budget, and at the highest possible quality. Working with visual arts and facilities staff, outside vendors, partner institutions, and visiting artists, the successful candidate will have a laser focus on value engineering, scheduling, and resource management.
The Exhibition Manager builds conceptual budgets for project feasibility, details and manages the final exhibition budgets, approves all expenses with the finance department, and regularly reports to the project team.
As a non-collecting institution, MASS MoCA’s Exhibition Manager acts as our de facto project registrar, arranging shipping, tracking loan agreements, and coordinating conservation of work while in our care.
The key skills required for success include the ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly and diplomatically, schedule and budget accurately, and think creatively about value engineering and problem solving.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Five years’ experience working in exhibition preparation, production, and museum practices
- Demonstrable experience developing and managing six-figure project budgets
- Highly organized, adept with spreadsheets and software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to draft both schematic and construction plans
- Experience negotiating and managing contracts
The individual must also be creative, strategic, and flexible, with good social skills; the Exhibition Manager must be able to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.
