Outreach Manager

Non-profit

The Boston Preservation Alliance is the city’s leading historic preservation advocacy

organization. We are continuing along a trajectory of growing support through social

media outreach, a fall annual awards event, and educational programs. We work with a

diversity of partners and constituents interested in balancing preservation of the city’s

historic character with the city’s growth, evolution and vibrancy. Our supporters include

individuals, organizations, other non-profits, and corporations across the spectrum of the

real estate and design communities.

The Alliance seeks an enthusiastic, well-organized, and motivated individual to manage

the external outreach of the organization through electronic communications (social

media, web site, direct emails), mail, traditional press (newspapers, etc.), and Alliance

programs and events. The role also includes managing membership and sponsorship

through our electronic database.

We require excellent writing and interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-

paced environment as part of a small but dedicated staff, and the flexibility to manage

periodic evening and early-morning meetings and events in this exempt, salaried position.

While an interest in our core mission to “protect places, promote vibrancy, and preserve

character” is helpful, this position does not require historic preservation training or

experience. A passion for the uniqueness of a city like Boston and a desire to share that

enthusiasm is beneficial. A candidate with experience, ideas and enthusiasm to enhance

the diverse, day-to- day operation of a small non-profit will thrive.

Some experience desired in non-profit administration, communications, social

media/website management, and prospect/membership-database management.

QuickBooks, program and event logistics, promotion, and marketing would also be of

benefit. Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills are essential.

We require an undergraduate degree and prefer at least two years professional or high-

level internship experience in an office setting.

Each member of our small staff reports to the Executive Director and works closely with

him, the board of Directors and committees to assure the successful operation of the

Alliance. This job provides many opportunities for an enthusiastic and creative thinker

who successfully balances day-to- day tasks with new ideas and an eagerness to help grow

the organization’s base of support.

Please, no phone calls.
