Mary is a post-doctoral associate in the Poincaré Institute for Mathematics Education at Tufts University. Mary earned her PhD in mathematics education at Tufts University. She also graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
She was previously a research assistant with the Early Algebra, Early Mathematics Project at Tufts, worked with the Tufts University Problem Solving and Discrete Mathematics workshop for teachers of grades 5-9, and teaches courses for students seeking an MAT degree in teaching middle and high school mathematics. Her dissertation research was on mapping teacher and student understanding of introductory combinatorics. Her main research interests are in analyzing student thought in algebra and combinatorics, and in the relationships between teacher and student mathematical thought.
