Students and faculty from the Poincaré Institute recently participated in the 2011 Community Day at Tufts!
We set up a table and brought math games with us. The games were made from supplies, such as plastic containers, that you can find around the house. We enjoyed playing the games and talking about math and science with some of the students and parents from two of our partner districts, Medford and Somerville.
It was a great opportunity for us to talk about our project and have some fun at the same time. We are already looking forward to the 2012 Community Day!
Poincaré Course Launch
PoincareInstituteProject LaunchJanuary2011
On January 7 and 8, 2011, the first cohort of 60 teachers, from the nine partner districts, took part at Tufts in the launch of the first of the three Poincaré Institute online graduate courses. We spend Friday evening socializing and learning about folks from the various districts. On Saturday we got to work. In the morning we took part in animated discussions about ordering pairs of numbers and categorizing a variety of mathematics representations. On Saturday afternoon we dove into the online learning environment and got started with the challenge for Week 1. Lots of work but lots of fun. In short, it was a memorable weekend and a great kickoff for the Institute.
