Design decisions

For our first car, we wanted something simple and reliable, but with excellent performance, weight, and driving characteristics. We went through several initial designs, and eventually settled on a three-wheeled monohull design as shown. We based our design on set parameters, such as wheel well height, ideal driver position and dimensions, ideal weight distribution (66%-33%), and regulation restrictions, and have been continually refining the aerodynamic design to our current ~0.09 Cd, or ~0.075 CdA. We believe this measures competitively with the best solar cars in the field, and with further refinements, we believe we can improve it.

We are also designing a carbon-monocoque chassis, and ultra-reliable suspension. We use Finite Element Analysis to gauge the strength of our chassis, observe areas of stress concentration, and improve our design. Our chassis will be small and light, but strong enough to protect the driver in accidents.
