Description: This session will highlight two anomaly detection use cases in production: identification of problematic life sciences manufacturing units and identification of significant newsworthy sports events. With both of these solutions, Shiny is integrated with live data to provide early detection for proactive intervention. Shiny’s intuitive UI also allows for interaction with the data behind anomalies to uncover potential causes and paths to action or resolution.
In addition to reviewing these industry applications, the session will briefly highlight a rapid prototyping approach with Shiny. This technique allows for iterative and collaborative refinement of the underlying anomaly detection model in R, quickly incorporating user feedback.

Description: The COVID19 pandemic substantially changed the ways we live and work. Some of the changes are temporary, while others may be long term. How do these changes affect the job market and careers in the fields of data science, business analyst, data analysis, applied statistics, etc.? What technical and/or soft skills become particularly important now? What are the differences between industries? A panel of data scientists will discuss these and related questions, and answer questions from the audience.

Description: Shiny is an R package that makes it easy to build interactive web apps straight from R. You can host stand-alone apps on a webpage or embed them in R Markdown documents or build dashboards. This short course will introduce you to building web applications and dashboards with Shiny, reactive programming, and customizing and deploying your apps for others to use. Please bring a laptop with you.
We will use RStudio Cloud for the workshop so you don't need to install anything ahead of time. I recommend using either Google Chrome or Firefox as your browser. We will regularly break for small group activities so please be ready to work through hands on exercises with others in the workshop. It would be useful if you're able to keep your video and mic on at least during the breakout groups. I will ask that you keep yourself muted during the main session and put any questions in the chat window. If you're able to do so, I encourage you to keep your video on during the main session as well, but this is entirely optional.
