The gung-gong invocation “Jebo” usually is played solo to test the tuning of the gung-gong, but also can be played in an ensemble format with answer and lead lunga parts. Although it is not done this way in Dagbon, drummers in my groups enjoy playing the composition many times in unison arrangement. Alhaji explains that the Dagomba people imported the gung-gong drum into their tradition from a neighboring people to the east. Because “Jebo” did not originate in Dagbon it does not have meaning in the Dagbani language.
