Abstract:

Self-determination for individuals with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is often overlooked. This project aimed to promote members’ self-determination in monitoring goals and bring their voice to the narrative shared with funding agencies through Monthly Member Milestone (MMM) reports. Observation of the MMM process, integration into 3LPlace community, and informal interviews were conducted with members (n=15) to determine needs and gaps. Staff (n=6) implemented an individualized weekly goal tracking tool with select members (n=8) to increase member awareness of goals. Staff received individualized coaching on goal modification. Feedback was collected from staff on the implementation process verbally and via a Google Form. The thematic analysis of informal interviews and staff feedback suggests implementing individualized goal resources as a strategy to increase member self-determination. (125 words)
