Mariam Guniava is a Leading Specialist at the Consumer Protection Division, Specialized Groups and Supervisory Policy Department at the National Bank of Georgia (NBG). At NBG, Mariam is involved in developing and implementing the regulatory framework for financial sector consumer protection, monitoring the financial market for products and advertisements, and resolving consumer complaints. In addition, Mariam is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Education as well as several financial education projects. This includes the incorporation of financial education in the national curriculum of Georgia, which is in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sciences. In cooperation with her colleagues, Mariam monitors and helps design relevant responses to financial inclusion trends in the country. She is currently involved in the development of SME and household over indebtedness studies, which will inform the authorities’ further work on financial inclusion and point to possible policy solutions.
