Ms. Shoheli Afrin joined Bangladesh Bank, the Central Bank of Bangladesh, in 2005, as Assistant Director. Ms. Afrin focuses on women’s empowerment and works on policies that help people create balance between their professional and personal lives. She believes that to build a modern nation, working on families is equally as important as working in the professional arena. In her role, she advocates ideas that can help professionals, irrespective of their gender, to take care of their families without hampering their careers. With a background in political science, she uses her knowledge to analyze the socio-economic picture. To strengthen her financial and economic understanding, she studied bank management, which helped her explore the banking sector with an expert’s eye. At present, she is working in the Department of Offsite Supervision in Bank Supervision Specialists area. In this department, she collects information on each and every segment of a bank that is operating in Bangladesh and analyzes that information to update the existing monitoring and supervisory tools in order to establish strong collaboration between the Central Bank and the commercial banks. Her current working area helps her get the true picture of the banks’ performances on achieving targets of loan diversification, disbursement of credit among women, disbursement of CSR funds among financially distressed people, SME finance, corporate governance, and legal compliance
