Umaru Farouk Aminu joined the National Pension Commission formally in August 2005 after spending 14 years in classroom, where he taught Mathematics, Computing and Operations Research. He was engaged on special National Assignment to establish the pension industry in Nigeria after serving, on advisory capacity, with the Acting Director General during the period of consideration of the pension reform bill proposed by the National Assembly. After signing the Pension Reform Act of 2004 into law, he was engaged to establish the Nigerian pension industry. Mr. Aminu served on numerous Committees and handled various assignments including serving as a support staff to the Director General. He served on the committee that reviewed the National Strategy on Public Service Reforms as well as on the Technical Committees of the National Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion, which were later combined into the National Financial Inclusion program. He also serves on the Program Monitoring Office of the National Financial Sector Strategy 2020, and has been the head of Research & Strategy Management Department from 2005 to date.
