Unit Head, Microfinance Promotion, Regulation and Follow Up Unit, Ministry of Finance, Cameroon

Prior to heading the Microfinance Promotion, Regulation, and Follow Up Unit, Mr. Besong served as the Service Head in charge of Public Finance Regulation and Analysis. Being able to bridge Public and Private Finance has allowed Mr. Besong to acquire strong buffers for sustainable public policies aimed at promoting financial inclusion. He is currently a member of the Accreditation Committee responsible for the licensing of Microfinance Institutions and Focal Point, representing the Minister of Finance at the National Strategy for Inclusive Finance. In his position, he is concerned with improving of the quality and accessibility of financial services to the unbanked living in remote areas, the enhancing of a pro-inclusive finance regulatory and institutional framework for microfinance and the mapping out of a deposit protective scheme in the microfinance sector. He is also an associate lecturer at the national School of Administration and Magistracy. He holds a master’s degree in Bank Management and Public Law from the University of Yaounde II, Cameroon and a master’s degree in Development Economics from the Clermont Ferrand School of Economics, France.
