Mrs. Nonhlanhla Chiromo is a Principal Bank Examiner in the Bank Supervision Division of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. Prior to this she worked for two international banks in the areas of Retail Banking and Credit. Over the twelve years she has worked at the Central Bank she has been involved in the supervision of banking institutions, including conducting research and drafting policy guidance to the sector. In 2016 Mrs. Chiromo was co-opted into the team to lead the process of developing the country’s credit infrastructure with the objective of promoting financial inclusion and enhancing financial stability in line with the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.  Under this program, a Public Credit Registry was established in 2017 which has improved access to information for credit decision making by various lenders. In order to reap the full benefits of the infrastructure, Mrs. Chiromo has spearheaded a public awareness program targeting lenders, borrowers and other key stakeholders across the country. In the second phase of the Credit Infrastructure development program, Mrs. Chiromo is spearheading the establishment of a Collateral Registry which is expected to improve access to credit by SMEs and individuals.  Mrs. Chiromo views access to appropriate and affordable credit products as being key to sustainable development in a developing economy such as Zimbabwe. It is her vision to see marginalized communities in Zimbabwe benefiting from the various financial inclusion initiatives, including the credit infrastructure enhancements.
