Pa Lamin Sonko, Microfinance Officer, Central Bank of The Gambia. I have extensive experience in the field of regulation spanning over eight years. My current responsibilities entail developing financial inclusion policies, coordinating financial inclusion Initiatives, and regulating and supervising microfinance institutions, mobile money, and fintech companies.
Prior to joining the Central Bank of The Gambia, I worked with Reliance Financial Services, where I was part of a team that pioneered Women’s Banking in rural areas, which provides formal financial services to rural women.
My key achievements over the years include drafting the NFIS concept note and strategy, the tiered KYC framework, the regulatory sandbox framework, and the gender-sensitive consumer protection framework.
I obtained a BSc in Economics from the University of The Gambia and an MSc in Economics and Finance for Development from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom. The University of Frankfurt also certified me as a Certified Financial Inclusion Expert.
