Sherifah Tumusiime is a seasoned technology and financial inclusion advocate with over a decade of experience in ICT systems and women’s empowerment. She currently serves as the Senior Systems Officer at the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) in Uganda, where she manages critical digital infrastructure, including the goAML platform, to ensure compliance with global AML/CFT standards. As the Secretary of the FIA Virtual Assets Working Group, Sherifah contributes to developing regulatory frameworks for blockchain technology and virtual assets, fostering innovation while maintaining financial transparency.
In addition to her work at FIA, Sherifah is the Founder and CEO of Zimba Women, a social enterprise dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs through digital tools and financial literacy programs. Under her leadership, Zimba Women has implemented initiatives such as a digital literacy program for over 1,200 women across Uganda, and the establishment of a SACCO funded by a €10,000 grant, enabling women to access savings and affordable loans.
Sherifah’s expertise spans ICT systems, digital literacy, financial inclusion, and gender advocacy, with a strong focus on leveraging technology to bridge access gaps for underserved communities. She has also contributed to national policy development, including the drafting of the National Payment Systems Bill (2019). Sherifah’s vision is to transform Zimba Women’s SACCO into a neo-bank within the next decade, promoting financial inclusion on a larger scale.
Sherifah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and is pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology at ISBAT University. She is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
