July 2019 FWN Newsletter

Fletcher Women’s Network Summer 2019 Newsletter

Dear Fletcher Women,

Warm greetings from the Fletcher Women’s Network! We plan to reach out to our broad membership four times a year to keep you abreast of FWN news and encourage your participation in our events, activities, and major initiatives.

Transitions at the Fletcher Women’s Network: Get Involved!

After almost two years of working on FWN, the Executive and other committees are now preparing for the year-end exit of some of our members and the recruitment of new members. Our transition team is now working to delineate or modify existing roles and formulate new ones. The workload for each individual role is about 2-4 hours per monthat the most. Our plan is to notify the membership in September on what roles are open and ask for volunteers; interview those interested in October and November, matching skills and interests with roles; and welcome the new team on board in January 2020. In the meantime, we certainly would love to hear from those who would like to start a dialogue now of how to become involved. Reach out to us at fletcheralumnae@gmail.com

DC Potluck for Rachel Kyte

More than 75 women came to Wendy Swire’s home on June 10th for a potluck to celebrate the appointment of Rachel Kyte, Special Representative of the UN Secretary- General and CEO of Sustainable Energy for All, as the 14th Dean of (and the first woman to lead) The Fletcher School. Rachel and her family currently live in DC and will be moving this fall to the Boston area. Rachel shared with the group her reasons for applying for the position and her excitement in taking on the role. She spoke of the importance of input from Fletcher women – from current students to older alumnae.

The FWN-DC also used the gathering as an opportunity to announce that they are forming a new board to be in place by July 1. To learn more and to be included in DC communications, contact them at fletcherwomensnetworkdc@gmail.com

Mentoring Project Update

Thank you all for responding to our Mentoring survey. We’re absolutely thrilled to see the high level of energy and spirit among us to support each other in our professional development. So far, 79 alumnae have shared their preferences over their engagement in the program. Of this group, 40 % have signed up to mentor and 60% to be mentored. Should you know of any other alumnae who would be interested to join the program, especially as a mentor, please share the form with them. While we’ll start the matching process soon, we will keep the survey open to enable members to sign up. You can access it here.

Graduation Tea

FWN hosted our annual graduation tea to welcome new graduates to the Network. We were delighted to celebrate with 40 participants at Fletcher in May.

Fletcher Women’s Network Blog

Our blog is up and running and looking for contributors! Check it out. We welcome contributions from any interested member of the Network. If you’re interested in writing a post, please contact Jamila Xible (jaxible@gmail.com).

Convene and Represent FWN at Events

If you’re traveling and getting together with Fletcherites or attending Fletcher-type events, reach out to FWN and let us know so that we can support local groups to have a presence or just connect with other Fletcher women. Post on our Facebook page and find some old and new Fletcher friends for a get together.

Calls to Action!

1. Start Your Own Local Group!

As we welcome Boston and Geneva to our list of local groups, we encourage anyone interested in starting your own local group to email fletcheralumnae@gmail.com to reach Allyson Hawkins or Ashley Doliber for US-based groups, or Annin Peck for groups outside the US. Check out our “How to Get Started” Guide and “Communications and Branding Guidelines”, found on the FWN Local Groups page.

2. Keep your Contact Information Current

We use the emails from the Fletcher/Tufts Online Community to reach our members (all Fletcher alumnae). It is helpful if you will include where you are, so we can reach out to you when there are events in your area. Go to the Online Community to check and update your information.

Best to all!

Mollie Pepper, Editor and Co-Chair, FWN Communications Committee
