Guasto Lab

Shiva Mudide, Shikhar Sinha, and Andrew Tsakiris are recent graduates of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. They are joining the Guasto Lab for the summer and will be working on microfluidics and magnetotactic bacteria research. Welcome Shiva, Shikhar, and Andrew!

Thomas Coons and Sydney Holway  have joined the Guasto Lab to study particulate transport. Sydney (Tufts Physics, 2018) is a  Tufts Summer Scholar (supervised by collaborator Prof. Tim Atherton), who will be working jointly with Thomas (Tufts ME, 2019) to use combination of numerical and microfluidic techniques to study clogging in constricted flows.

Amin Dehkharghani successfully defended his M.S. thesis entitled “Hindered transport of bacteria in porous media flows.”

Prof. Guasto visited the Tufts Physics Department to deliver an invited lecture in their colloquium series. The talk, entitled “Bacterial transport: Flow and geometry in active matter systems”, was on recent experimental and simulation work in the Guasto Lab pertaining to bacterial transport in porous media flows.

Prof. Jeff Guasto visited the Applied and Computational Mathematics group at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he spoke about recent work in the seminar entitled “Two problems in porous media: From swimming cells to complex fluids.”

The Guasto Lab celebrated the end of a successful year with a holiday dinner in Beacon Hill.

Nicolas Waisbord, Amin Dehkharghani, and Jeff Guasto attended the American Physical Society – Division of Fluid Dynamics meeting 2016 in Portland, Oregon. They delivered a series of four contributed talks on recent work.

Jeff Guasto spoke to the Applied Math Group in the Mathematics Department at Tufts on recent work on porous media flows and bacterial transport.

Jeff Guasto visited the Department of Physics at Clark University where he deliver a colloquium on bacterial transport in porous media.

Amin Dehkharghani and Allen Ma successfully passed their Ph.D. qualifying exams through the Department of Mechanical Engineering and are now Ph.D. candidates!
