Submissions Process
Each volume of the Tufts Historical Review is produced over the course of one year. To better understand the process of publishing a journal, please review the graphic below.
Submissions Criteria
The Tufts Historical Review receives many papers each year. To ensure we do not waste the time of our editors, only papers that adhere to the following guidelines will be put forward for their review.
Academic Qualifications | Authors need to have written their paper as either an undergraduate or graduate student. THR reviews papers written by undergraduates and graduates separately, so please indicate your academic program in your submission email. In a typical year, THR publishes around 4-8 papers. |
Word Count | All submissions should be between 3,000 and 8,000 words. |
Cutoff Date | The main argument of the paper should relate to events taking place before the year of 1991. |
Works Cited | All citations should be formatted according to the most recent edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. |
Formating | – Please remove your name, university, and personal information from all locations on the document except the title page. – Please send your submission as a PDF or a Word document. |
Commitment to Publishing | – All authors submitting papers to the Tufts Historical Review must be fully prepared to work with an editor if their paper is accepted. – Submissions cannot have been previously published. |
