Collections Management Internship [Boston Children’s Museum]

Title: Collections Management Internship

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The intern will assist the Collections Manager with daily tasks and ongoing projects involving Boston Children’s Museum’s artifact collections. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, cataloging, photographing, and researching museum artifacts to help prepare and enter catalog records into the PastPerfect database. Projects may include inventorying areas of the collection, and preparing artifacts for programs and exhibits.

LEARNING COMPONENT: The Collections Management Internship provides hands-on training for students interested in gaining curatorial or collection’s management experience in a museum setting. The intern will be introduced to current curatorial practice and related administrative responsibilities, as well as BCM’s collections management practices and registration procedures. The Intern will also have opportunities to learn about and meet with staff in other departments.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Current students with a background or interest in Natural History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Art History, History, or Regional Studies are encouraged to apply. The candidate should be familiar Windows applications; have excellent organizational skills; be detail-oriented, responsible and dependable; have working knowledge of office procedures and equipment.

TERM: This is an unpaid internship that must be coordinated with the candidate’s college or university for course credit hours. The period of service will correspond with the semester system for the institution the intern is attending. Service hours will be completed Monday-Friday and will be organized around the student’s schedule. Hours and duration of the internship will be determined based on the college/university requirements to receive credit hours for the work. Candidates must be current students to be eligible.
