Director of Marketing

Profile:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and CEO, the Director of Marketing is chiefly responsible for the realization of Remai Modern’s brand, marketing, communication, guest experience and retail operations and supports the development and implementation of marketing and communication tactics for local and global audiences.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Executes the strategic marketing direction, brand strategy, communication and public relations strategies for the Gallery.

– Delivers on the strategic vision by developing and implementing business development plans that meet annual revenue generation targets from product development and sales, admissions, rentals, memberships, events, value-added services and new ventures.

–  Conducts market research to inform the Gallery’s marketing, communications and public relations strategies.

– Responsible for managing and growing the customer base including setting direction for and evaluating the overall customer experience.

– Manages the customer service area including overall visitor experience, reception services, way-finding and information delivery.

– Ensures brand alignment and editorial direction on all gallery materials including, design, production and distribution.

– Oversees the visual identity, providing direction for graphics standards, branding guidelines and marketing collateral.

– Supports the strategic direction of Remai Modern through the marketing of development and fundraising programs and events.

– Cultivates and builds relationships with members of the media and press and directs Communications staff in building media interest in the gallery. Ensures regular contact with target media and timely and appropriate responses to media requests.

– Assists with preparation of media/press briefings, speeches, presentations and talking points for the CEO, members of the Board and Campaign Committee and the senior staff team.

– Manages the relationship, contracts and deliverables from consulting firms on marketing, branding, advertising, media, and public relations.

– Prepares the Marketing and Communications Department’s revenue and expense budgets, monitors progress and reports.

– Recruits, directs, supervises, trains, develops and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.

– Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications:

University Degree in marketing, commerce, business, journalism or public relations.

– Seven to nine years’ progressively responsible experience in design and execution of marketing with a minimum of 3 years’ experience at the senior leadership level.

– Strong familiarity with and passion for the arts and tourism sectors combined with knowledge of public sector and non-profit organizational operations.

– Proven competency in business development combined with current knowledge of marketing and social media trends.

– Demonstrated ability in overseeing the design and production of print and web-based materials and publications.

– Demonstrated ability in analyzing sales patterns and research to inform decision-making.

– Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships with assigned staff, trustees, volunteers, artists, donors and sponsors.

– Demonstrated ability to direct and support staff in achieving desired results.

– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.

– Demonstrated ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and writing, including the ability to prepare and present oral and written and audio-visual reports of a specialized nature and the ability to create a persuasive case to garner support for key programs and projects.

– Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

– Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.

– Demonstrated skill in the use of a computer using the Microsoft Office Suite and related marketing systems.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for supporting the Keough Family Curator of Photography in overseeing the Department of Photography’s collection and initiatives, including assisting with acquisitions, exhibitions, publications, and special projects.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Under the direction of the Keough Family Curator of Photography and Head of Collections, and in close collaboration with the Curatorial Assistant for Photography and Exhibitions:

  • Provide expertise in the identification and acquisition of outstanding works of art for the collection
  • Provide expertise in the presentation of the collection of photographs through exhibition, research, publication, and the web
  • Support initiatives to tour the department’s exhibition projects
  • Negotiate loans, prepare installation plans, develop and participate in educational programming, collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization, give tours and talks, host portfolio reviews, draft grant proposals, write texts, and communicate effectively about projects to the staff, board, and public
  • Create and maintain excellent donor relations, including work with the Friends of Photography support group and coordination of gifts
  • Support access to and care of the collection through vault management, cataloguing, digitization initiatives, study room activities, and other duties as assigned
  • Develop strong relationships with contacts in the art world, including professional colleagues, artists, estates, auction houses, and dealers
  • Maintain departmental correspondence, assist with budgets, and attend meetings

Education and Experience:

Minimum of a Master’s degree in art history and 2-3 years of experience in a curatorial department.

  • Ability to effectively present information to the museum staff, board of directors, donors, collectors, and other constituents
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and other publications, catalogues and correspondence

Museum Coordinator/Historic Preservationist [City of Dickinson, ND]

Museum Coordinator/Historic Preservationist

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing, promoting, and managing the operation of the Museum Center, which includes the Joachim Museum, Pioneer Machinery Building, Dinosaur Museum and all historic buildings in Prairie Outpost Park.  In addition, working with Historic Preservation Commission on their projects and promotions, and other matters relating to historic preservation in the City.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees and      manages the museums and historic buildings on the Dickinson Museum Center      property.
  • Supervises and      monitors the work of Museum Center staff.
  • Work with      various boards, staff and individuals to promote the City of Dickinson,      Museum Center and other city assets to tourists and residents.
  • Work with      various boards, staff and individuals to ensure the utilization of the      Museum Center throughout the year.
  • Serves as the      community historic preservationist, who is responsible for planning and      implementing public programs, which highlight the history of the Dickinson      area and promoting the Renaissance Zone and other incentive programs to      encourage historic preservation.
  • Promote      Dickinson as a Certified Local Government under the National Park Service      and State Historic Preservation Office of the Historical Society of North      Dakota and work with the Dickinson Historic Preservation Commission, to ensure      the success of programs to highlight area history by taking the lead in      getting buildings listed on the National Historic Register and increase      public awareness of the importance of historical buildings and sites.
  • Develop annual      work plan for the museum center.
  • Develop annual      budget for the Museum center, assist in the preparation of budgets for the      Joachim Museum and the Stark County Historical Society.
  • Attend and      present monthly report at Joachim Museum and Stark County Historical      Society Board meetings.
  • Oversee the      development of exhibits and public programs presented at the Museum Center      and throughout the community.
  • Oversee      management of the museum and archival collections of the Joachim Museum      and the Stark County Historical Society.
  • Assist the      museum and historical society boards with grant writing and fundraising.
  • Develop museum      center public relations and marketing.
  • Oversee the      Museum Center gift shop, including product development and buying.
  • Oversee website      and social media, maintain online digital archive (Omeka.net).
  • Oversee the      maintenance of the Museums and the Prairie Outpost Park Buildings.
  • Performs other      duties of a similar nature or level as required.

SKILLS

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Environment:

  • Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Work is performed within routine office environment with minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions.  Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time.  Some stooping, lifting of objects may be required.

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Barra American Art Fellowship [Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA]

Generously endowed by The Barra Foundation in honor of Robert L. McNeil, Jr., with additional support provided in 2016–17 by Mr. and Mrs. William C. Buck.
One fellow will be chosen to join the Department of American Art during the academic year (twelve months, from September 2016 through August 2017). Fellow will work full-time (35 hours per week), assisting four days a week in ongoing department research and exhibition projects, with one day reserved for personal research, writing, or travel. Applicants should have completed their M.A. degree in art history or a related field and propose a thesis or area of research interest that can take advantage of the resources of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and other area libraries and institutions. Priority will be given to those with projects relating to the Museum’s collection or exhibition program, and to students from the Philadelphia region. Fellows will have library privileges at the PMA and the University of Pennsylvania. At the conclusion of the term, the Barra Fellow will be expected to give a lecture and submit a paper reflecting work done during the residency.
