Description:

OVERVIEW: The Gallery Education Intern is a member of the Bakalar & Paine Galleries’ Education team; s/he assists with planning and implementing the Galleries’ educational programs including but not limited to custom gallery visits and special events. This part time, unpaid internship (roughly 10-16 hours/week, September 2016 – December 2016; renewable January 2017- May 2017) exposes interns to the inner workings of a contemporary art museum, offers both direct teaching and administrative experience, and encourages interns to undertake a project of their own. Selected interns will have an interest in collaborative planning and a willingness to learn throughout the year.

N.B: Planning sessions will likely begin in the third week of August 2016.

REPORTS TO: Curator of Education

SUPERVISED BY: Gallery Education staff

<pclass=”msonormal”>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research forthcoming and ongoing exhibition themes, artists, and artworks for curriculum design, teaching strategies, program development, and other gallery education related activities;
  • Assist with Looking to Learn program: curriculum design, gallery-teaching, scheduling and booking school & gallery-visits;
  • Assist with biannual Family Day and Gallery Attendants’ orientation;
  • Teach in classrooms and galleries as needed;
  • Assist with ongoing administrative work and material prep;
  • Assist with documentation (photographs, scans of student work, etc.);
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly with the Gallery Education team on other duties as assigned.

Interviews of select applicants will be conducted in the month of June 2016.

Qualifications:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors level study in art education, museum and community education studies or related field;
  • Direct teaching experience with youth;
  • Strong knowledge of art-making processes supported by an artist’s portfolio;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on program planning and teaching;
  • Proficiency in internet research, Microsoft Office, Photoshop and/or Illustrator software;
  • Excellent communication skills and a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in museums and/or cultural organizations;
  • Demonstrated high standards for museum education practice;
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively interpret contemporary art for a broad range of learners;
  • Experience working with underrepresented communities;
  • Demonstrated ability in photography and/or video documentation.

Description:
This is a full time exempt position requiring flexible hours to accommodate occasional evening and weekend events. The Membership/Administrative Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

The position provides support for the membership, cultivation and fundraising functions of NBAM/ArtWorks! Directly oversees all membership operations and works in coordination with the Development Manager. Additional administrative duties include office oversight of bookkeeping and accounts receivable/payable and managing Museum Shop. Additional duties as needed.

Qualifications:
MA in arts administration related field preferred. BA required. Experience in museums, membership and or development in nonprofit and/or arts setting. Skilled in standard computer programs and experience in Exceed and Quickbooks.
