The New England Museum Association seeks interns for several ongoing projects. Interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in logistics, databases, event management, and marketing by assisting with the planning and execution of museum-oriented professional development programs, including the 98th Annual New England Museum Conference, November 9-11, 2016 in Mystic, CT. Responsibilities may also include: Performing outreach to museums to ascertain best practices, creating a catalogue of museum policies, and disseminating the policies to museums throughout New England. Maintaining and updating member records, analyzing membership trends, and researching innovations in member outreach and retention. Assist with marketing of “Museum New England,” a website developed by NEMA to promote visitation of New England museums. Implementation of social media strategies to communicate with the museum field. This internship can be offered for academic credit. A small stipend is available. The majority of the internship will take place in the NEMA office located in Arlington, MA and is accessible by public transportation. Description:
The Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital explores the hospital’s more than 200 years of history and the groundbreaking research happening here today. Volunteer docents greet visitors, lead tours, and demonstrate pieces of technology and artifacts. Docents also have the opportunity to give tours of the hospital’s historic Ether Dome.
Qualifications:
While some of our docents are medical professionals or history buffs, no special background in history, medicine, or science is required! We will train you.
Docents typically have one standing two- or three-hour shift per week; must have some flexibility to cover other shifts. Must be available a minimum of six months. While an apply-by date is required to post a listing on this site, we are always interested in talking with potential docents.
