Located in the Old Washington County Jail, the PHS museum and archival collections document the domestic, social, business, and cultural life in the region of the Pettaquamscutt Purchase. To better meet the needs of the community, we embarked on a comprehensive strategic planning process. As a result of this process, we have developed a new vision for the future: to become a leading research and archival center dedicated to the preservation and promotion of South County’s rich and diverse history through programming, educational offerings and exhibitions. The Collections Intern will work directly with PHS staff to help achieve this new goal by assisting in the completion an inclusive inventory of the museum’s artifact collection. He/She will assist with the inventory process by recording, photographing, and researching objects. Interns will gain insight into how a historical organization manages and maintains collections, develop skills with the PastPerfect software, and conduct object-based research. Some duties will include: conducting a detailed inventory of an assigned museum space, assisting staff by researching aspects of the collection or specific objects, and provide support with other museum tasks. Qualifications include: being detailed-orientated, competency with computers; experience with catalog software a plus, strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, interest in history, museums, and preservation, excellent time management skills,and positive outlook,and research skills. Physical requirements include repeated climbing up/down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds and to perform duties while standing, sitting, and walking. Description:
The Education Intern assists the Education Coordinator with administrative duties of the education department crucial to its success, and reflects a positive image of Fuller Craft Museum and its mission to the general public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the administration of programs including but not limited to workshops, tours, outreach and special events, as well as contributing to the overall vision for Education Programs at Fuller Craft Museum.
  • Take registrations for tours and workshops; maintain files/records.
  • Work closely with the Education Coordinator to create and facilitate educational experiences for children and/or families to complement the Museum’s collection and exhibitions.
  • Deliver excellent customer service–is articulate and helpful and ensures a high-quality experience of students and visitors through thoughtful actions and words.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills, computer skills, communication skills, and ease with multitasking are all required. Experience leading art activities and/or developing curriculum materials is preferred. Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Education, Studio Art, Art History or Museum Studies. Can commit 8-15 hours per week.
