First off, if you haven’t subscribed to our weekly newsletter, subscribe here! Our newsletter has been going strong for a few months and we’d love to have more subscribers added to the family, so subscribe now so you don’t miss the next one!

While this time of year can be busy, we would love to feature more guest posters here on the Tufts Museum Studies Blog! Students, you can even submit papers and assignments you have written to the blog. We love to know what’s going on in your classes, and we can help edit if you need it!

Although the blog is student-centered and student-run, it is not solely for current students. Anyone can submit a blog post! Our goal is to create and support a community of museum professionals while showcasing interesting museum news and engaging in conversation. We will frequently post reviews and questions, and would love to hear your thoughts! We’re always looking for new blog authors and assistant editors, and welcome submissions of any kind. Here are a few ideas for post topics:

  • Exhibition reviews
  • Museum reviews
  • Short essays on upcoming topics
  • Short introductions to new blogs or other online sources of information
  • Event announcements
  • Internship overviews and reports
  • Other topics that interest you. We are open to suggestions!

Major Gifts Officer [Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI]

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for prospect and project management within the Development Department of the Newport Art Museum. Working with the Executive Director and Director of Development, this individual will identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit current and prospective individual donors, corporations and foundations capable of giving $50,000 or more to the Museum’s annual fund, special events and other strategic initiatives. He/she will be part of an overall effort to strengthen donor and corporate relationships and encourage increased levels of financial support. The successful candidate will possess progressive fundraising experience and proven ability to solicit and close gifts on the $50,000+ level; track record in building relationships across a spectrum of individual, foundation and corporate donors to achieve aggressive fundraising goals; capable of developing and executing ongoing strategy for qualifying candidates and moving them to prospect status using tools such as a donor pipeline, small cultivation events, research, and community networking. A minimum 3 years of major gifts leadership, progressive experience in successful development programs, knowledge of office systems / MS-Office and familiarity with fundraising database systems (Raisers Edge) is required. Education and Public Engagement Assistant [Newport Restoration Foundation, Newport, RI]

The Newport Restoration Foundation is seeking a candidate for the above position which serves on a team that represents the public facing functions of NRF and works to ensure memorable experiences that celebrate Doris Duke’s cultural and intellectual curiosity for NRF’s onsite and virtual visitors. Specific responsibilities include; manage school partnerships and programs, assist with developing and implementing educational programming and tours for three museum sites, contribute to the creation and implementation of public programming, staff public programs and events, including set up/take-down and occasional oversight of supporting guides, conducts tours and programs at all NRF sites, including walking tours of Newport’s Historic District, support the promotion of programs via social media, calendar listings, collateral distribution, contribute to the development and implementation of marketing campaigns, provide necessary back-up for Rough Point visitor service functions and administrative support. Qualifications; Bachelor’s degree required in education, liberal arts, marketing, communications, museum studies, or related field, 2-3 years’ experience working with the public in an educational or customer service capacity, preferably in a museum setting, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to organize and manage multiple details without losing sight of the larger mission.
