Reproducing historically accurate clothing in a museum setting encompasses a multitude of skills and processes, including research and development, use of period and modern construction techniques, as well as sharing this knowledge and skill with our guests who visit Plimoth Plantation. The Historical Clothing and Textiles: Wardrobe Production intern will learn, practice and apply the steps involved in reproducing period clothing for a living history museum. This will include historical research with access to departmental and museum libraries, pattern drafting, period construction techniques, and 17th-century accessories or trims (thread-wrapped buttons, card woven trim, hat making, etc.). They will also experience the unique workings of a wardrobe shop in a museum environment. Historic Clothing & Textiles: Collections Management Internship

Plimoth Plantation’s Historical Clothing & Textiles program is seeking an intern with an interest in historical clothing, research, and/or archives. The ideal candidate would like to gain experience working with museum collections and organizing research materials; some research skills are necessary, as the tasks will include refining memos and papers. Additionally, the internship includes some hands-on work with our reproduction clothing and textiles, so basic sewing skills will be helpful. The Historical Clothing & Textiles Collections intern will be working with our reproduction clothing and textiles collection, with an emphasis on documenting and cataloging each piece in the department’s inventory. The catalog is being digitized and the intern will be instrumental in moving that project forward. This internship is an excellent opportunity to become familiar with managing active collections and the research materials necessary to further the Historical Clothing & Textiles program. Museum Education & Public Programs Internship

The Museum Education & Public Programs Internship provides participants hands-on experience planning, developing and implementing educational programs for children, teenagers, adults and families. Interns will gain invaluable museum education and program experience planning and implementing on-site public programs for diverse audiences as well as our popular summer day camps. In addition, the Museum Education & Public Programs Interns will use their academic knowledge of education, museums, history or culture to research, develop, teach and evaluate an original public program under the supervision of the Director of Public Programs & School Services. The ideal candidate will have interest in teaching and education in formal and informal settings; knowledge of education, early American history, 17th-century history, Native culture, anthropology, archaeology, museum education or museum operations; ability and willingness to lead group programs and manage groups of children; excellent interpersonal skills; willingness to learn collaboratively as part of a team; physical ability to perform some light lifting, to lead active programs (such as 17th-Century Games or Colonial Dance) and to work outdoors. Historical Horticulture Internship

Plimoth Plantation’s internship in Historical Horticulture offers the opportunity to explore both 17th- and 21st-century plants and horticultural practices through practical, hands-on learning experiences. Interns learn how experienced horticultural staff combine historical research with practical skills and knowledge to create, maintain and preserve historical landscapes in a variety of settings around our Museum. Working alongside Horticulture staff, interns will learn 17th-century horticultural techniques and practice their 21st-century skills. This internship also provides the opportunity to collaborate with staff, volunteers, and fellow interns in complementary departments across the Museum. Family and Youth Programs Intern

Description:
DeCordova’s Learning and Engagement Department seeks enthusiastic and motivated candidates pursuing art, museum, and/or education degrees or careers to develop and facilitate family and youth programming inspired by the art in the 30-acre Sculpture Park and the changing Museum exhibitions.

Responsibilities vary according to the season, but may include: developing and facilitating programs for families, such as drop-in material-based programs, play-based programs for early learners, and school vacation week workshops; researching, designing, and maintaining Family Activity Kits; preparing and working for the hive summer camp; collaborating with educational and community partners; and carrying out a wide variety of day-to-day operations.

Qualifications:
Qualifications include: strong organizational, written, verbal, and computer skills. Experience working with children and families is preferred. 16 hours per week minimum commitment, including some weekend days required to accommodate family programs.
