Advocacy at Tufts

The following is a list of activities and ideas designed to support and celebrate the faculty and staff LGBTQIA+ community at Tufts. Please note that not all of these activities are currently underway, nor have they all been approved or endorsed by Tufts University at this time. We will be sure to note any fully approved and implemented activities and processes in the lists below.

HR & Benefits

  • Changing “Preferred Name” to “Common Name” in all HR documents and processes
  • Highlighting health services and insurance benefits specific to the LBGTQIA+ community
  • Creating an LGBTQIA+ professional development course for faculty and staff audiences

Communications and Marketing

  • Request that central Tufts Communications develop gender-related content and writing guidelines, suggest that current content gets reviewed for default pronoun usage
  • Review current imagery and request new ideas for representing the queer faculty and staff population at Tufts visually (for those who are comfortable being out and represented in photos)
  • Anything else?

Purchasing and Procurement

  • Add sourcing goods and services from LGBTQIA+ as a priority area (with a reminder that this should be an intersectional process alongside sourcing from women and minority-owned businesses)
