Print,Paper, and Graphic Arts
The Print Shop, Riso Studio, and Screen Print can only be accessed by students who have taken a class in person (before the COVID-19 policies). If you took a class in the Print Shop, then you get access to the Print Shop. First year graduate students who have extensive experience working in print may be eligible for access. If you would like to brainstorm an idea/way to print in your private studios or at home, feel free to contact the PPGRA Studio Manager Louis Meola (email@example.com) for consultations.
The Ceramics studio (A005, A006) access for Spring semester 2021 is available to all students after completing an online training. Please email Sally Lee (firstname.lastname@example.org) for access to online training. All students are expected use the online registration system for work slots in designated areas. We ask that all students adhere to the COVID-19 protocols Tufts has set out and respect the social distancing requirements and capacities for each space. Have fun and get muddy!
Plaster and Mold Studio
The Plaster and Mold studio (A314) access for Spring semester 2021 is available to all new students after completing an online training. If you have already been trained to work in this studio you already have access! Please email studio manager John Huckins at email@example.com for access to online training. All students are expected to use the online registration system to reserve a workstation in designated areas. The Welding Studio in A002 is available for reservation to those already trained and authorized to use the space. If you haven’t been trained, fear not. Anyone may take advantage of the new Sculpture Fabrication Services offered by the Welding staff. These services range from cut-to-length material pickup to complete projects A-Z. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your project at any point from brainstorming to execution.
The Metals Studio in A111 is available for reservation to those already trained and authorized to use the space pre-COVID. Trainings and safety certifications will begin again when classes return in-person. Metals will offer burn-outs and small scale casting services for those who are able to invest their sprued objects. Flexible use studios can be reserved via the Studio Reservation System for access.
Digital Fabrication (Advanced Production Lab)
For the Spring semester, the Advanced Production Lab (Second Floor, Room A212) will be operating as a contact-less fabrication service. Please reach out to Simon (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you’d like to utilize the laser cutting, 3D printing, or vinyl cutting services. Simon will work with you to sort out your questions, material needs, timeline, cost, and delivery date for your project.
The Fenway Woodshop in A205, A205A is available for reservation to those already trained and authorized to use the space. Certified users may borrow hand tools for use in private studios (with the exception of electric saws, routers, and planes). Graduate students with sufficient experience may request a bench test, granting access to the shop after successful completion.If you haven’t been trained yet, fear not. Students have access to a selection of tools located in private studio spaces. Anyone may take advantage of the new Sculpture Fabrication Services offered by the Fenway Woodshop/Welding shop staff. These services include cut-to-length material pickup, assembly, and/or support in the development of projects. Email Dyllan (email@example.com) to discuss your project at any point from brainstorming to execution, to inquire about bench tests, and with any other questions relating to the Fenway Woodshop.
The Sound Studio (B015) has been de-densified to 4 individual workstations with identical equipment and software. Students may become authorized to reserve a workstation after going through a short orientation. Virtual trainings on microphones or recording equipment can be easily arranged. Please contact Ben Aron (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule a virtual orientation.
Video and Digital Media Studio
The Video and Digital Media Studio (B115) has been temporarily adjusted to be a space for video production and media installation. Groups of up to 4 people can work physically distanced on a production or project. Students must go through a short orientation before gaining authorization to use the space. Please contact Ben Aron (email@example.com) to schedule a virtual orientation.
There is no walk up service for Spring 2021. All equipment pickup are contact free via the lockers in room B008 (in the Basement) or via mail if you are fully remote. If you would like to make an Equipment Checkout visit the website and fill out the equipment request forms found there. You will receive an email confirmation with your locker number and combination. If you have any questions about equipment or want to set up a Zoom equipment consultation, reach out to Dan O’Connor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The D-Lab, Darkrooms, Alternative Process Room, Film Processing Area, and Project Suites are available by reservation via the Studio Reservation system. They follow the standard studio schedule of Sun-Sat, 9AM – 9PM. For color film processing, you may still leave your film in the dropbox next to B006. Film is currently being processed once a week.
Inkjet printing services are available, but we cannot accommodate walk-in requests. Please e-mail email@example.com with your desired paper type, print size, and border size. You will receive a cost estimate within 2 business days.
The Mac Lab (B211) will be open by reservation via the Studio Reservation system from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week. Reservations are open to all members of the community and there are no prerequisite training needs. For support needs, please contact Stephen Bailey (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Tufts Technology Services (email@example.com) can be reached out to for remote support as well.
Mission Hill Fabrication Studio
Students that have previous shop experience can opt to take a bench test to gain access to specialized equipment. This consists of a written section to verify working knowledge, then a hands on section to familiarize with shop specific rules and practices.
