Bridgestone World Solar Challenge

Fall 2025

Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is a race across the Australian continent from Darwin to Adelaide, spanning 3022 km or almost 1900 miles. Our goal is to compete in the Challenger class, which is a time-trial race spanning over five days. This is the most difficult solar car race in the world, but from the people who have reviewed our progress – MIT’s team, professors in our school, people who have led Australian solar car teams- we are confident that we can not only finish this challenge but be competitive. Our main barrier to entry is financing, as we will have to fly members of our team and our vehicle halfway around the world.

Formula Sun Grand Prix

Spring 2024

Formula Sun Grand Prix is a closed-course race held at the Circuit of the Americas, a Formula 1 race track in Austin, Texas. The goal of the race is to make as many laps around the circuit as possible over three days, testing the durability of a solar car as a precursor to the American Solar Challenge.

American Solar Challenge

Fall 2024

Similar to Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, American Solar Challenge is a cross-country race spanning 1500-2000 miles held across sections of the US. Routes may include elevation, making the competition especially challenging for low-powered solar vehicles. To compete in the American Solar Challenge, teams must first successfully complete the Formula Sun Grand Prix.
